Morph (’01-’02)
Tonight we are going to redefine reality.
Morph means form. The present is without form, because it is intangible.
Morph: a performance that defines reality from one moment to the next moment in order to make it tangible.
Morph: A woman – who is trying to survive the confrontation with herself, but in all her openness, keeps taking on more radical points of view.
I’m not fun, yet am happy.
And that is surely a unique quality of this country.
People who can’t handle the everyday fun anymore
find a remedy with me.
Laika (’02-’03)
Laika is a story about a sacrificed animal. On the 3rd of November 1957 the dog Laika was locked in the capsule of the Spoetnik 2 and sent into space. She became the first representative of the earth in the cosmos; the four-legged hero of the Soviet state. At the time, return was not possible, so the comrades had the animal put down.
Laika was a multimedia performance about becoming a victim of your own ego, about how heroes are created and about what a true heroic deed represents. It is about how someone is able to completely lose himself, but also about how they can exceed themselves, regardless of the circumstances.
The Worldwideheroshow
Everybody is a star! Everybody is a star! Everybody is a star! Everybody is a star!
The Worldwideheroshow is a multimedia theatre event in which the boundary between the spectator and the actors is lifted. The Worldwideheroshow is betrokken ‘lounging’. SPACE engages its search for new heroes.

Shapeshifters, society of the third sex
It is rare when power and vulnerability go perfectly together; when an idea is served to the audience which is simultaneously modest and leaves room for other people’s thoughts. It is an accomplishment that Petra Ardai and Luc van Loo’s theatre company SPACE often succeed in achieving. Shapeshifters too is a focussed dive, but still making a swim under water – in any number of directions – possible.
Gender is not only a fascinating topic, obscured by ignorance and insecurity, but it is also the form in which SPACE tackles it that is interesting: The shapeshifters plays with feelings of fiction and documentary, is theatre, radio play and film all in one.
The Shanpeshifters, society of the third sex is SPACE’s first in a series of internal operations. In co-operation with production house [Frascati], the group lets the three sexes in al their manifestations and mythical proportions come into being. In the Shapeshifters an attempt is made to exceed/overcome ‘gender issues’ and to look for a new and flexible identity.
Are you a man or a woman? Have you ever had your chromosomes tested? If not, how do you know whether you have a male or a female body? There are fourteen possible combinations: XX, XY, XXY, XO, XXX. XOX… Does that mean that there are fourteen different gender identities? Do we really need our own (idea of) gender?
Using the lives of two guides from the third sex as a reflection, two women, one man and a video artist once again explore, layer by layer, their and our identity.
The performance is simultaneously a documentary and an “event”. Together the actors and the audience make up the community in which this research is taking place; it becomes a place where another reality arises and new techniques of thinking are created. The makers zoom into the world that lies beyond the facts, the internal world of man and society.
The Shapeshifters: an interactive, sensory voyage offering a space in which to re-experience and relive ideas and clichés. Searching for a more tolerant and open world in which we can all fly. Searching for an indefinite form.
