Space
Mission statement

SPACE is the theatre company of Petra Ardai and Luc van Loo. SPACE produces “exploratory operations”: interdisciplinary, theatrical documentaries in which social topics are dissected and the political becomes personal.
SPACE takes social development and taboos out of their unambiguous context and in this way uncovers the world that lies behind the facts.
Image, sound, script and performance are all equal dramatic elements. Precisely by placing these different media side by side our performances touch several layers of meaning.
The overarching question asked with all “exploratory operations” is “what is identity and by what is this determined”.

Future
SPACE is working on a series of five “exploratory operations”, both in theatres and on location. So far, two “exploratory operations” have taken place.
In The Shapeshifters, society of the third sex (’04) identity and gender are unravelled.
The place where we belong, The Europe society (’05) was about the European shifting identity and
Design God: Society of consolation (06) was an audiotout in the public space about the beauty and the danger of collective (relegious) movements.
Coming seasons, these performances will be on tour both domestically and abroad.
In March 2008 was the première of the Hungarian version of
Holland Tsunami, Drowning in Europe. In this new mockumentary The Netherlands become a disaster area. Hungary is the only country to harbour the poor Dutch refugees.
In November 2008 the Dutch première prepaired the Dutch to be a refugee.
After the summer SPACE will start a brand new international co-production called
THE CLOUD. It’s all about being a witness, memories, commemorating and how history is being made.
We look at the newcomers and why they came here.
We are looking for the new European identity.
